A 470 million bottle problem

470 million single use plastic bottles are produced every single year. 20% of those are produced by Coca Cola - makers of Coke, Sprite, Fanta, Innocent, Schweppes and Vitamin Water along with over 190 other brands. Yeah .. they’ve got a problem a 100 million bottle problem of their own making - and a problem which is having massive impact on communities around the world. In Samoa for example - where there is a population of only 200,000 - within only a couple of months of the company switching from glass to plastic, all the beaches and local fishing waters were polluted with plastic. Due to its small size the country struggles to even afford containers to ship the compacted collected bottles off the island.

The Coca Cola company is aware that having moved production from glass bottles to single use plastic they have created an enormous global problem . Recognising their problem (and ours) they’ve created  a “World Without Waste” strategy  aiming  to collect and recycle a bottle or can for every one  they sell and make 100% of our packaging recyclable. - by 2025. It might be cynical it might be genuinely well intentioned wither way its a big problem and if you want to understand more about it the recent Panorama on the iPlayer is well worth watching.

It helps you understand their problems and why we at TIDL believe by providing you with a recycled plastic alternative you can help !
